About Me

I am a pastor at Resurrection Church (Burnsville, MN) and an adjunct professor at Bethlehem College and Seminary (Minneapolis, MN), where I primarily teach hermeneutics in the evening MA program. I’m also a fellow in the St. Irenaeus Fellowship with the Center for Pastor Theologians. I studied English in college and completed two masters’ degrees in theology (an MA and a ThM).

Most recently, I completed a PhD in Biblical Studies - Biblical Theology under the supervision of Andreas Köstenberger through Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. In this program, I had the opportunity to study really interesting things, like 2nd Temple Judaism, Biblical Theology, and the Pentateuch. In the writing phase of the program, I focused on the image of God. My dissertation is titled “The Image of God in Genesis: A Metaphor for Divine Fatherhood and Royal Sonship.”

My primary research interests are hermeneutics, biblical theology, sacraments, and the image of God.

My wife Kate and I enjoy exploring Minnesota, hiking, fishing, and spending time with people on the deck or around a bonfire. We are also pretty fond of our two pets, Harper (a golden-doodle) and Ellie (a cat).

What Is The Repository?

The Repository is exactly what it claims to be: a storage location. It functions as part commonplace book, part social media, part blog.

On the homepage, you’ll find several sections. By subscribing, you will subscribe to all of them. If you aren’t interested in certain sections, just go into the settings and unsubscribe from individual sections to get just the kind of content that you’re interested in.

The Journal is where I will post periodic personal updates. The Library is where I will write book reviews, reading reflections, and post select quotes. The Study is where I’ll write about biblical and theological issues. The final section, The Repository, is a catch-all section to hold posts that are otherwise difficult to categorize or don’t neatly fit into the other sections.

In addition to these four sections, you will also find a Notes section. This page is effectively Substack’s edition of Twitter/X. In the past, I’ve used it sparingly, similar to the way that most people use social media. I’ve shared short quotes, articles, and brief reflections. By subscribing or following, any “notes” that I post will show up in your feed.

Finally, Substack gives the option to host a Podcast. I’ve enjoyed hosting the Resurrection Church podcast and being a guest on a handful of other podcasts. In the future, I’d like to utilize the podcast feature to host conversations with friends or to talk to you about things I’m interested in.

If anything I’ve described above might be of interest to you, please subscribe to The Repository and perhaps share it with someone who might benefit from it. As you read, consider utilizing the comment feature to engage with additional ideas, related resources, or questions. Substack makes it easy to interact with the content posted here, so please take advantage of the connection that is possible on this platform.

The Repository is part commonplace book, part social media, part personal blog. I'm a pastor and have a PhD in Biblical Theology—so most of my writing relates to the Bible and theology.
